Hyejeong Yoo (b. 1992, Seoul) is a photographer currently based in Leipzig, Germany. She holds a B.F.A. in photography from Chung-Ang University in Seoul. In 2022, Yoo received her Diploma with honors in photography in the class of Prof. Heidi Specker at the Academy of Fine Arts Leipzig (HGB). She later completed her Meisterschülerin (postgraduate studies for artists) under Professor Specker's mentorship in 2024.
Yoo’s work explores themes of the Other and the cyclical interplay between birth and death, conveyed through minimalist and meticulously staged photographic compositions. Employing both photography and video, she creates a performative dimension in her work that draws viewers into a silent, contemplative space. Her images are characterized by the gentle caress of natural light, the embrace of silence, and the haunting emptiness reflected in the eyes of her protagonists.
